Oya is a gifted track athlete who must decide between her future career or her ill mother. In the Red and Brown Water fuses Nigerian Orisha Gods with Southern Louisiana to bring us a story of perseverance surrounding the black community. We watch as Oya and her community journey from teen to young adults and what that means for black youth. She is constantly faced with the question of “what does it mean to be a woman.”

Through the use of color, pattern and traditional Nigerian textiles. My design brings forth a sense of identity, culture, and hope.
